" ... excellent wordsmith – well-crafted language... the material has that combination of continuity and creativity that is the hallmark of real tradition" -- Mardles
"I never knew you could achieve that with a bodhran! We'll look forward to a reprise in the future." -- Steve Primorolo, Organiser - Bracknell Folk Club
John Ward’s songwriting has been born from his life in a tough and gritty East Anglian fishing port that has seen more than its fair share of social change and decline. John started life as a solo performer, singing mainly his own compositions, in folk clubs, festivals and concert venues across the UK before collaborating regularly with other excellent musicians, including fiddle player, Mario Price, and, more recently, his trio and 4-piece band.
When the occasion demands, John still performs solo, accompanying his own fearless vocal delivery on acoustic guitar, bodhran, harmonica, and anything that takes his fancy! He is able to draw on his wide repertoire of original, traditional and contemporary songs to tailor his performance to intimate or bigger venues, delighting audiences with his engaging personality and off-the-cuff humour. His bodhran solos are a particular favourite with live audiences. John is often joined on his solo gigs by his wife, Lynne, providing harmonies. |
